Cheng Qianfan And The Study Of Song Poetry

The study of Song poetry had been confined to the limited dispute of strengthsand weaknesses between Tang and Song before the1980s.Failiing to develop its ownacademic traits, the study of Song poetry couldn’t establish such a research systemalong with its cultural values. Nowadays, the views on the status and values of Songpoetry have sticked to the beaten track, the wrong treated as right, and thepreconceived notions and the undecided ideas are all in existence. Based on the abovefacts, professor Cheng Qianfan worked on the documents cited and sorted theseparation and reunion of different groups in Song poetry. His study focused on theaesthetic qualities of Song Poem, and has formed himself a self-sufficient system.This thesis will analyze the professor Cheng Qianfan’s study of Song poetryfrom the following aspects:First and foremost, it will illustrate Mr. Cheng’s life and his academic activities,mainly on his life stories and scholarly characteristics.Secondly, it will tell the background of Song poetry study and its contents, whichinclude the macroscopic characteristics theory, creation Theory, as well as theappreciation outlook.Thirdly, it will focus on Mr. Cheng’s research method of Song poetry, theacademic origin and intension originated from the combination of criticism andtextual research.Last but not the least, it will summarize Mr. Cheng’s research achievements onSong poetry from the aspects of the anthology and the formation of cohort literature.
