Practice Of Business Translation In The Light Of Functionalist Translation Theory

This is a retrospective research report in the light of Functionalist theory on thebasis of the translation of Risfond company profile.Chapter one is an introduction to the project, reasons why the author chose thisproject to translate and a summary of the original source text, including analysis of itscontent, linguistic characteristics, and text type. An overview of the translationprocess and relevant translation theories are also introduced in this chapter. Chaptertwo is the main body of this report. In the light of functionalist theory, the authordivides difficulties in this translation into two categories: linguistic problems andcultural problems. This report tries to solve linguistic problems in the translation inlexical level and syntactic level respectively. Translation of cultural elements is a hardthing for many translators and it is also the toughest in this translation. In view of thepurpose of this translation and the target readers’ culture, the author advocates to useadaptation to make the translation proper. Chapter Three is a conclusion. In this part,the author summarizes what she gained from this translation, including the highlightsand weakness in this translation. Finally, there are some suggestions for futurepractice.
