Working memory refers to the capacity-limited system that allows the temporarily storage and processing of information.The working memory capacity is the amount of information that actively processing and storage durning a certain time. The study reviews previous research results on working memory, experimental measures both simple and complex working memory capacity based on previous studies..collects Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) scores as high-level cognitive tasks, and compares Chinese to examine the working memory characteristics of Southeast Asia students learning Chinese.The results indicate as follow:(1) Chinese proficiency will affect the working memory performance of Southeast Asian Students who study Chinese as a second language.The performance of working memory tasks that written by Chinese materials, Southeast Asian Students’ Chinese working memory capacity is smaller but longer task processing time compared to the Chinese-speaking Chinese subjects;(2)The overseas Chinese students’ performance on the working memory task closer to the local Southeast Asian students, and in no difference processing time the overseas Chinese students’working memory performance are superior to the local international Southeast Asian students;(3) Different complex working memory tasks show a high correlation, and working memory performance is better predict the performance of the Southeast Asian Students in HSK compared to their HSK level and whether they are overseas Chinese students or not, high working memory capacity individuals are more likely to achieve superior results in HSK test compared to low working memory capacity individuals.
