In recent years, the study and analyze about the relationship between cognitive styles and memory has becoming a hot topic in the development of cognitive psychology. Previous studies mainly investigated the relationship between the implicit and explicit memory which are influenced by two kinds of cognitive styles (field-independent and field-dependent). Verbal and imagery cognitive styles are two important kinds of cognitive styles. However, few studies use this classification. What’s more, previous studies mostly are based on a single material to research. In this study, graphics and words were used to inspect the different cognitive styles (Verbal-imagery) effect on Southeast Asian Students and Chinese Students implicit and explicit memory.40 Southeast Asian Students and 40 Chinese Students were chosen to employ experiments to verbal cognitive style and imagery cognitive style, applying PDP in order to separate consciousness and unconsciousness part respectively in graphics recognition and word recognition memory task in their experiments. Then analyze the consciousness abstract and automatic abstract by GLM-Repeated factorial, the results revealed that:(1)Cognitive style affect explicit memory rather than implicit memory. From the point of Information processing and processing, we can see that imagery Style individuals tend to characterize the form of representation and organization of information, and verbal cognitive style type individuals tend to "word" to characterize and organize information. When learning materials matches the verbal-imagery styles, the achievements are usually better.(2)Individual differences (country) affect explicit and implicit memory in words experiment. the differences which reflects the difference between taking Chinese as the first language and taking Chinese as the second language. But it does not in graphics experiment.(3) Different experimental material (words, images) affects explicit memory and implicit memory.
