On The Passive Factors Of The Interpreter’s Subjectivity In C-E Conference Interpretation From The Perspective Of The Interpretive Theory

Based on the Interpretive Theory and the materials of Premier Li’s press conference interpretation, this thesis is aimed at analyzing the passive factors of the interpreter’s subjectivity. The study shows that the Interpretive Theory focuses on the interpretation of the meaning rather than the language itself. During the interpretation, the interpreter should pay attention to the meaning of the source language and then form the main idea in the deverbalization phase. In addition, the interpreter’s subjectivity is essential in the interpreting activity, which involves two aspects. One is the subjective ability, and the other is the passivity.We have to realize the fact that these two aspects are both important. Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, the author attempts to discuss how to overcome the passive factors of the interpreter’s subjectivity in the deverbalization phase, two of which are the intrinsic restrictions of the interpreter himself and the external constraints of the cultural factor. From the perspective of the Interpretive Theory, the author summarizes three interpretation strategies to overcome the passive factors, which are respectively the supplementary interpretation, selective interpretation, free interpretation, and explanatory interpretation.In conclusion, this thesis is meant to provide guidance in conference interpretation.
