| Press conference as an important platform for public diplomacy, serves thefunctions of communication and publicity. Within a certain range of time, theinterpretation transcript of a press conference is the only authoritative source ofinformation which has a wide coverage and significant influence. Based on theanalysis on the previous literature, this thesis selects the Interpretive Theory as thetheoretical support to study the interpretation of government press conference. Basedon the analysis of the nature of press conference interpretation, this thesis carries outthe case study of the NPC and CPPCC press conferences, and accordingly putsforward approaches for interpretation in this context. In accordance with the threestages of interpretation raised by the Interpretive Theory, this study claims thatclarifying the macro and micro goals of a press conference is the foundation for athorough comprehension of the message from the speaker; preparation of specificknowledge is the basis for deverbalization. To achieve reformation, methods such asomission, explanation and logic readjustment are often necessary. |
