During the period from the late Yuan to the early Ming, Chen Mo is one of leaders of Jiang You literati’s colony. He is well versed in Confucian classics and various schools of thought. His achievements in poetry and prose creation have a far-reaching influence on the cabinet style literature of Ming. He pays attention to the essence of knowledge, and known as the Jiangxi Confucianism. At that time, people very respected his knowledge and characters. However, he hasn’t been paid sufficient attention now, neither to researchers. So, this thesis based on his works and aims to give him an objective evaluation in the history of literature.This paper is divided into four chapters. The opening chapter gives a brief Introduction of Chen Mo’s life experience and his friends of literary circles. The first part mainly explores his family background and associates to ancestors come from JinLing, and divided his life into two stages according to Yuan and Ming Dynasty.The second section deals with his contact with his friends especially in JiangYou literati’s colony. Chapter two states his main Poetic Theory. Cause his theory scattered in his works, by reading all of his literary works, this part sums up an integrated system of his theory. On one hand, He promotes the "Returning to the Ancient" trend of thought. On another aspect, he also realizes the importance of innovation. This includes two aspects:ontology and creation in literature.The third chapter makes an comprehensive evaluation of poems’ideological contents and artistic techniques. Contents can be summarized as "Responding poems","Lyric Poems" and "Poems Inscribed on Paintings".The last chapter deals with his essays. First of all to analyze, clear up, and summarize his opinions. Then classifies his essays as prefaces, glorifications, letters etc. The purpose is discussing the general situation, aesthetic feature and deficiencies.
