Li Liufang On The Test

Since a literati of Jiading in Late Ming Dynasty named Li Liufang's family moved from Huizhou to Jiading, it established a tradition of searching for official career. After the death of Li Liufang's second brother Mingfang and Cousin Xianfang, the family became decadent. To revitalize his family property, Li Liufang fighted for a official career by taking part in Civil Service Examination about so many years,but finally he gave up after many failures. Li Liufang had made many friends in his life. Besides travel for imperial examination , Li Liufang always travelled to south Jiangsu , the center of which was Suzhou, the West lake area of Hangzhou, and Huizhou area, which was the home of his original family.Under this social and historical background, Li Liufang not only had high achievements in drawing, calligraphy and seal cutting, but also got outstanding achievemenst in Literary. His main literary thoughts were the poetic thoughts (affection was it's standard) and the essay thoughts (he attempted to combine the feeling from classic with the expression of emotion). Li Liufang's poems are the faithful practice of his poetic thoughts. By the different emotions his poems expressed, we can classified his poems'contents into six major categories: grief poems, worried poems, wildness work, happy work, comfortable work, Zen work. In view of the lyricism, the lyric tone, lyric structure, lyric methods, lyric characteristics and lyric style can demonstrate Li Liufang's artistic achievements. Li Liufang's essays were not lead by its essay thoughts. In essay field, his achievements appeared in five styles of writing: preface, travel notes, inscriptions on a portrait, funeral oration and postscript. Among these essays, his postscripts reached the highest achievements. We can call it as the wonderful work of essays in Late Ming Dynasty.Li Liufang's influence for literary and culture in aftertime was far-reaching. That was mainly manifested in three aspects: he affected the change of poems between Ming and Qing Dynasty through Qian QianYi indirectly,a link between past and future of Jiading culture, and the spread of his corpus. This thesis emphatically discussed the second aspect.
