Xu Xue Mo's Life Make Friends, Literature And Thought Of, And Poetry Writing

Xu Xuemo is a writer of Jiading in the middle and late Ming Dynasty. He has once been the minister of rites, which brings him a wide cycle of friends. He also has a lot of literary works. He has criticized the drawbacks of "imitating the ancient works" of the Latter Seven Writers sharply. What's more, he has paid tribute to Gui Youguang's essay. However, he has been known by very few people, not to say researchers. The purpose of my thesis is to give him an objective evaluation in the history of literature by reading all of his literary works.There are four chapters in my thesis. The first chapter focuses on Xu Xuemo's life and his friends in the literary circles. The first section is a summary of his life. According to the development of his literary thesis and writings, his whole life can be divided into four stages. The second section deals with his contact with friends in the literary circle, especially paying attention to his friendship with the Latter Seven Writers and the writers of Jiading, which has a huge influence on his literary thesis and his works.The second chapter is a description and evaluation of Xu Xuemo's literary thesis. The first section is a description of his thesis, which can be summarized as"anti-archaism", "on the basis of the Six Classics","seeking an orthodoxy style".The second section discusses the contribution of his thesis.The third chapter focuses on his poems. The first section introduces his main poems in different subjects. The second section is an evaluation of their characteristics and an analysis of their deficiencies.The last chapter deals with his essays. The first section is an analysis of the biographies, while the second section gives an introduction of his travel notes,letters and proverbs.In the epilogue of the thesis, I try to summarize his values in the history of literature in the above-mentioned three respects.
