Abstract/Summary:
Qu Jie, born in1744and died in1818,who styled himself as "fu ruo","ju ting"," hermit of qin chuan","qin chuan cang shan zi","master of attic of qiu shui","hermit of ju ting",etc. He was called Yu and later changed it into the name now in order to av oid the taboo. He failed again and again in the Chinese imperial examination, thus tra veling around Yan Men and created several dramas such as Autumn of Yan Men, Retu rn of crane. In the year of1806, he was promoted as magistrate of a county of Feng D u. He taught in academy of Ping Jiang in his later years to enjoy his later life. Qu Jie i s one of the most important dramatists over the middle and later periods in Qing dyna sty and his works is very representative of the times. The paper looks on creation of pl ays of Qu Jie as objects of research, discloses his artistic achievements on dramas, exp lores his contribution and position in the drama world around middle and late periods in Qing dynasty and discusses major performances of the times during which the influ ence of romance decreases.The paper is divided into four chapters. The first one mainly explores the lifetime, family background and famous works of Qu Jie. The author conjectures the approxi mate detail time of Qu Jie on the basis of the past research and records of Qu Jie’s poe try and essays and introduces his experience throughout his life in order to reveal the t rue life of Qu Jie. As the family tree of the generation of Qu Jie in Chang Shu has not been found, the author has to date back to ancestors of Qu Jie according to related con tent of Family Background of Qu’s and introduce the publish version and detailed con tent of the works of Qu’s according to previous research about Qu’s famous works.The second chapter aims to do research on the social relationship of Qu. The auth or makes a classification study on Qu Jie’s friends and digs out Tao Tingyu, Ji Xuejin, etc commarades. Fa Shishan,YangFangcan etc officials and literary men.The influenc e of Qu upon his literature creation is explored through analysis of his acquaintance.The third chapter studies thoughts of drama works of Qu Jie. This chapter mainly introduces the content of Qu’s plays, combs major plots and finds out similar plots an d combs the change of drama works especially the origin and development of the dra mas. In addition, some core ideas like advocacy of loyalty, filial piety, righteousness, wretchedness of history, exposure of dark sides of imperial examination and also som e feudal dross are analyzed.The fourth chapter researches artistic traits of Qu Jie’s dramas. The works of Qu J ie are interpreted objectively on the basis of details of drama texts in various aspects s uch as shaping of characters, construction of scene, and the effect of works of Jiang S hiquan upon Qu to define the position of Qu Jie in the circle of dramas of Qing dynast y, particularly important effect on the respect of history drama.
