Studies on the works of Jack London, including ecology study, feminist study,and ethnic study, have always been focused on the thought, the image and thehumanistic environment, relating with the content of the novel. However, little hasbeen done on Jack London’s writing techniques which are applied in the process ofwriting. Through collecting a large amount of data, especially the first-hand material,the author made exhaustive study on Jack London’s writing techniques. This thesismakes a probe into this question. The author hopes that this study can promote thestudy of Jack London.This thesis takes North Tales, which represents the highest standard of JackLondon’s creation, as the example, and makes analysis on how Jack London createsthis novel. It is divided into three parts. The first part deals with Jack London’snarration mode. In this part, three aspects, including the storyteller, the narrativemethod of third person, and the traditional flat style, will be analyzed to interpretJack London’s narrative mode. In the second part, the author concludes JackLondon’s reproduction of figures through referring to Balzac’s writing style in TheHuman Comedy. This part mainly analyzes some representative figures in North Tales.Based on the analysis of the first two parts, the third part investigates Jack London’slanguage feature. If comparing Jack London’s novel to a person, the first two parts ofthe thesis are the study of the skeleton of his novel, and the third part is the study ofthe flesh of his novel. This part talks about the style, the people’s language and theanimal language.Through the analysis of this novel, the study found that Jack London is a goodstoryteller. Besides, his writing skills and his characteristic language are so impressivethat people from all over the world are fascinated by his novels.
