Zhang Henshui is a highly prolific, popular Chinese novelist,his works after1949are almost not mentioned right now. In the first part of this paper,I will describe Zhang’s living and writing condition,as well as the relationship between Zhang and the new Chinese literary arena.Through this description, we could get the standpoint when we try to comprehend Zhang’s works after1949. In the second part,by means of close-reading,I will get a specific analysis for the texts of folk tales which is rewritten as fictions by Zhang.Through this specific analysis,we can see the text forms and the problems in Zhang’s rewritten works.Then I want to regard Zhang’s works as another popularity’s possibility in new literary arena after1949.1will try to prove that this possibility has its own rationality and legitimacyAnd I will also do my best to find out significances and values of Zhang’s works after1949. Last but not least,I will compare other similar works to Zhang’s,and tend to emphasize significances and values of Zhang’s works again.This paper does not want to treat Zhang as one of the cultural adherents of the former dynasty.And this paper does not belong to the future changes or revisions of "potential writing".This paper particularly want to reveal that,between Zhang’ writing and the new mainstream ideology discourse and new literary paradigm,there is not a simple "repression" and "repressed" relationship.Zhang’s works after1949might be not worth too much,but I don’t think they are just mere trash or only some simple ideology texts.We should face up squarely to their own significances and values.We should admit that there is another popularity’s possibility in new literary arena after1949.And we did not pay attention to it or even ignored it.So in this paper,when I talk about this popularity’s possibility,I think it could be a delicate "supplement" if we talk about the literary popularity after1949again.
