Objective: Through clinical study, we observed the efficacy and safety of NB-UVBphototherapy and NB-UVB combined with traditional Chinese medicine. We also comparied theirefficacies to cyto-immunity.to evaluate if they have curative effect in psoriasis. Methods: 37 patients were divided randomly into two groups, studied group and controlgroup.18in studied group (male=7, female=11) were treated by NB-UVB combined with herbalmedicine, the other 19 patients in control group (male=8, female=11)were treated solely by herbalmedicine. Observe the efficacy after 6 to 8 weeks. Efficacy was assessed by means of PsoriasisArea and Severity Index (PASI) and subpopulations of T lymphocyts. Results: According to the comparison of clinical efficacy and cyto-immunity of the twogroups, both the treatment of NB-UVB radiation combined with herbal medicine and solelyherbal medicine are efficient and the PASI scores for the studied group is lower than controlgroup(P<0.05) but no differentiation in cyto-immunity by stasis. Herbal medicine is a effectiveand few side -effect method in treating psoriasis. It seems that NB-UVB phototherapy combinedwith herbal medicine have additive effect somewhat.Conclution: The combination of Chinese herbal medicine and NB-UVB had aremarkable clinal effect in treating psoriasis vulgaris and it was superior than usingChinese herbal medicine only. Chinese herbal medicine group and Chines medicenecombined with NB-UVB group could both improve the cyto-immunoilogic function. But There were no significant diffrence between the patients of two groups.
