To describethe condition of nutrition knowledge, attitude and practice of digestive cancer patients, explore their nutrition knowledge, attitude and practice and the correlation between thesocial support and self-efficacy, so as to provide the basis for the nutrition education. Methods This study was divided into two parts. Part I: Questionnaire revised andevaluated.186patients with digestive cancer in two hospitals of grade A tertiary atHefei, Anhui province were enrolled in this study by convenience sampling. First, evaluating the acceptability of the questionnaire, and revising the questionnaire initialthrough factor analysis, combined with expert’s assessment and opinions. Then261patients were surveyed, forming the revised questionnaire through project analysis andscreening process in accordance with the general principles. Finally, evaluatingreliability and validity of DCNKAPQ by the revised questionnaire of220patients withdigestive cancer. Part II: A cross-sectional survey. By convenience sampling, with thequestionnaire of General Questionnaire self-designed, DCNKAPQ, GeneralSelf-Efficacy Scal (GSES), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) and FunctionalAssessment of Cancer Therapy-Generic scale (FACT-G),220digestive cancer patientswere conducted on-site investigation. Statistical softwares (SPSS13.0and AMOS17.0)were used for statistical analysis and confirmatory factor analysis of the questionnaire. Results Part I: The questionnaire of DCNKAPQ was constructed with3dimensions and30items through the initial revision, project analysis and screening and exploratoryfactor analysis, including17items of knowledge dimension,5items of attitudesdimension and8items of practice. The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the totalquestionnaire was0.822and retest reliability was0.79. Confirmatory factor analysis hasshown that fit good in single factor model of attitudes and practice dimension, but someparts of fitting index didn’t reach the reference value between knowledge dimensionmodel and questionnaire model. Part II: The average score of the dimensions ofnutritional knowledge, attitude and practice for patients was7.15±4.17points,15.43±3.31points and15.90±3.14points respectively. There was a positive correlatedrelationship among them (P<0.05). The average score of social support of patients was40.28±6.34points. The positive correlated was found as followed: nutrition attitudesand objective support, subjective support, support utilization and total social support;nutrition practice, nutrition KAP scores and objective support, total social support. Theaverage score of self-efficacy for digestive cancer patients was2.32±0.43points,nutrition attitudes, and nutrition KAP scores and self-efficacy were positive correlated. The average score of quality of life for digestive cancer patients was67.22±67.22points.The patients with different gender, diseases and levels of social support have differentquality of life(P<0.05).Conclusion The revised DCNKAPQ can be used as proper questionnaire to evaluate forthe patients in the future. General speaking, the KAP status for digestive cancer patientsis unsatisfied as lack of knowledge of nutrition, positive nutrition attitude and poornutrition behavior. There is a closely related among nutrition knowledge, attitudes, behavior, social support and self-efficacy in patients. The medical staff should value therole of social support, helping patients to take good advantage of social support system and improve the patients’ self-efficacy in the process of nutrition education so as topromote nutrition behavior change. Providing guidance and helping patients in clinicalpractice by understanding the different characteristics and background of the digestivesystem cancer patients.
