| Objective: The research samples110cases of burn patients hospitalized in a Grade-3, Class A hospital between January1,2012and August31,2013. Telephone interviews with the patients—in their rehabilitative period upon hospital discharge—are conducted in light of the multi-lateral relationship between anxiety, depression, and positive psychological characters of those patients. The research is designed to provide useful evidence for mental nursing of hospitalized burn patients, so to better improve quality of their life and alleviate burden of their families.Method:Telephone interviews is adopted on110burn cases who were first hospitalized between January1,2012and August31,2013,18-year old or/and beyond, and able to express exact personal feelings of their own. Two research instruments are employed:questionnaire on general information, and four psychological scalings, namely, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Adult Dispositional Hope Scale (ADHS), the10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI). Resulted data is statistically analyzed—with SPSS15.0—in view of descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, variance analysis and hierarchical linear regression analysis.Result:1. There exists anxiety in17burn cases in their rehabilitative period (15.5%of the total), and there’s depression with16cases (14.5%of the total).2. Female burn patients are more depressed than their male counterparts (P<0.5) and low income patients—whose annual family income is below50,000RMB yuan—are significantly more anxious and depressed than their better-off counterparts (P<0.5).3. Statistical difference occurs with anxiety/depression rating among cases with different burn surface area, burn degree, and body functioning.4. Significant difference in psychological characters of burn cases does exist between positive and negative groups in light of anxiety/depression in their rehabilitative period—positive psychological quality in positive group scores lower than negative group (P<0.05).5. Spearman correlation analysis proves that anxiety and depression symptoms of burn patients during rehabilitative period are negatively related with PTGI, CD-RISC, and ADHS (P<0.5), while the previous three elements have mutual positive correlation (P<0.5).6. Annual family income is an indicator of anxiety symptoms (P<0.5).7. Burn degrees and "hope Scale" in positive psychological characters are significant indicators of anxiety symptoms (P<0.5).Conclusion:1.There exists anxiety in17burn cases in their rehabilitative period (15.5%of the total), and there’s depression with16cases (14.5%of the total).2.Gender difference occurs in light of anxiety and depression elements with burn patients, and economic conditions (annual family income) contribute to those elements, too.3.Anxiety/depression rating among burn cases is correlated with burn surface area, burn degree, and body functioning.4.Anxiety and depression symptoms of burn patients during rehabilitative period are negatively related with PTGI, CD-RISC, and ADHS, while "hope scale" negatively predicts anxiety and depression in those patients. |
