Object: To investigate psychosocial factors, some biological factors andfactors of HAMA,HAMD,BPRS,MMPI to observe the thyroid hormonelevel change among depression patients, the constituent ratio of depressionpatients with HPT dysfunction and the relationship between HPT change andthe symptoms in patients with depression. Methods: A series ofscales(HAMA,HAMD,BPRS,MMPI), thyroidhormone(T3,T4,FT3,FT4,TSH)were matured in 475 patients with depression. And 222 patientswere excluded because of HPT dysfunction. Among the 253 patients left, 174patients were divided into A group and 79 into B group. The HPT hormonelevel of A group patients are in the normal range. If one of the HPTparameters is abnormal, the patient is included in B group. The constituentratio, factor score change of HAMA,HAMD,BPRS,MMPI are comparedbetween A group and B group. And the B group is divided into C group(T3abnormal group),D group(T4 abnormal group),E group (FT3 abnormalgroup),F group(TSH abnormal group), the factor score change of HAMA,HAMD,BPRS,MMPI were compared between A group vs. C,D,E,F group. Result: HPT dysfunction was found in 15.58% depressionpatients, with low T3,T4,FT3,FT4 level, and elevated TSH level. Theconstruction between A and B group are similar, the behavior retardarce factor score of HAMD scale of T3 abnormal group, the lack of motivationfactor score of BPRS of TSH abnormal group and F scale score ofMMPI of FT4 abnormal group has statistic differences compared with Agroup. HPT dysfunction has no relationship with HAMA scale factors. Conclusion: Subclinical HPT disorder was observed in parts of thedepressive patients. The HPT disorder of depression has no relationship withage, sex, stress, family history and so on, but has some relationship withdepressive symptoms, such as lack of motivation, behavior retardarce andmalingering. It is suggested that the basal line thyroid hormone level changesare associated with a group of torpor depressive symptoms and the degree ofdepressive severity.
