| BackgroundLeukemia is a malignant disease in hematopoietic system, which is the most common tumor in children. For its poor prognosis and high mortality, the family must bear tremendous mental stress and financial burden. In resent years, with the development and progress of medical technology, the remission and cure rates have improved, and the survival time have extended. Now the parents should bear the care tasks and concerns expect the fear of children’s death. Patients need to afford huge costs in long course of treatment besides the huge blow of childhood leukemia. According to statistics, only8%of the patients can receive treatment because of huge costs. This is related to the poor understanding of childhood leukemia and insufficient social support.ObjectiveTo understand the level of public cognition of childhood leukemia, publicize the basic knowledge about preventing childhood leukemia, enable the public to understand childhood leukemia more deeply and get more social support. This study investigates the level of cognition to childhood leukemia. We hope to provide a new theoretical basis for treatment and educational intervention of childhood leukemia, to improve the quality of life for children with leukemia, to avoid their behavior problems and to reduce social pressure.Method This study used the survey methods to understand the cognition of public to childhood leukemia in different ages, different educational background and different genders. The subjects are300relatives of children in Qilu hospital of Shandong University. The content of this study concludes the public awareness to childhood leukemia, the main source of knowledge about childhood leukemia, public awareness of the risk factors for childhood leukemia, public awareness of the prevention of childhood leukemia, public awareness of the treatment of childhood leukemia, public awareness of reserving fetal cord blood and public awareness of the social support to childhood leukemia.ResultsThe public awareness to childhood leukemia is limited. Social support to childhood leukemia is not enough. Public are not negative to treat leukemia, but lack the knowledge of treatment to childhood leukemia. The way public know childhood leukemia through is simple. Public awareness of the leukemia-related knowledge is not enough, especially the clinical manifestation, the easy onset age and procedures of treatment. Public are willing to provide support and assistance mainly through donation.ConclusionWe find the cognition of public to childhood leukemia is poor. We know the public awareness and attitude to childhood leukemia through this study. The public can better understand the relevant knowledge of childhood leukemia, can know childhood leukemia through various channels. So that the children can get more social support, and the relate units can provide appropriate assistance. |
