According to epidemiological statistics released by China,we added about 40,000 leukemia patients each year, half of them are children. Although the annual increased number of leukemia children is huge. Leukemia is not an incurable disease with the development of medicine. However, it need a long-term treatment to cure. It takes 2 to 3 years of continuous treatment generally, Chemotherapy costs usually needs 100,000 to 300,000 yuan. Bone marrow transplant costs 300,000 to 1,000,000 yuan. The children and their parents not only have to accept economic pressure, physical and psychological torture during the treatment, they also bear a lot of discrimination and disunderstand from the outside world. Many people do not know what leukemia is, nor they know what a family suffered such a disease really is. Previous studies on children with leukemia and their families are usually from the medical point of view, study psychological and emotion of children with leukemia and their parents, post-treatment care knowledge, how to improve the health care system and so on. They tend to believe that active and positive psychological conditions have a significant effect on the recovery, but there is nearly no research on the psychological conditions of the leukemia children’s parents and how they recognize the disease. This study use phenomenon research of the qualitative research methods, focus on what these families’ experience when the children are diagnosed to be leukemia and how the parents recognize the disease. Exploring what these parents’ cognition about the nature of the leukemia. Summarized a theme set that these parents built for leukemia, include silent fear, disturbed everyday life, physical and mental torment, accept the fact and spend money to survive, heavy expense burden, know the value of life better, looking for positive effect from the disease, thanks for who have helped them, hope to be cured completely. Based on this, combined with leukemia family’s experience figure, we can interpret theirunderstanding of the nature of leukemia as "bare hands rock climber" :they climb without security measures, they climb from the bottom one by one step, they will reach the top if everything goes well, but sometimes there will be slippery, fall back to the bottom after have a little progress, some even fall off from the cliff and lost their lives, but they never give up, they hope to climb to the platform at the top of the cliff through their endless striving. So, in the end, I think we should increase our support for "bare hands rock climber" from the regime, give them a fallback security "rope".
