Objective: The concomitant diseases and complications obstructive sleepapnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) patients treated with uvulopalato-pharyngoplasty (UPPP) were retrospectively analyzed to investigate themanagement and implications during the perioperative period of OSAHS.Method:From February2008to December2013,the clinical data of149cases with OSAHS during the perioperative period were retrospectivelyanalyzed,130patients were performed UPPP by the same surgeon ofotorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery. Results: With the concomitant disease of a total of59cases, accounting for39.59%;19(12.75%) cases failed to the operation because of concomitant diseaseand other causes.25cases (19.23%)of complication after UPPP consisted of4delayed extubations after surgery (3cases of preoperative evaluation ofreserved);2postoperative primary hemorrhages;2secondery hemorrhages;4cerebrovascular accidents (including1hemorrhage of brain stem death);12hypertensions immediately after surgery;1pyrexia.No dyspnea after surgery, and no tracheotomy happened. The result showed no significant correlation between the occurrence rate of operation complications and operation methods(P>0.05). Meanwhile, the application of unipolar electrosurgical excision caneffectively shorten the operation time, reduce the intraoperative blood loss (P <0.05).Conclusions:Concomitant diseases of OSAHS which is a systemic diseasesyndrome should be given rational treatment. Strictly abiding by surgicalindication when performing UPPP.Postoperative complications can occur at anytime of wound healing, strengthen the perioperative treatments is very importantfor the prevention of some severe complications occurrence.Paying attention tothe management of perioperation and making personal operation program arethe guarantees of UPPP efficacy and safety.
