Objective:In recent years, a large number of studies have shown thatimmune inflammatory activation plays an important role in Chronic Heartfailure(CHF). IL-37is a new anti-inflammatory cytokine, and it can combinewith IL-18BP and enhance IL-18BP inhibition of IL-18. So far, the relationshipbetween IL-37and CHF has not yet been reported. We aim to investigat theassociation between plasma IL-18,IL-18BPa, IL-37levels and chronic heartfailure in this study. Methods: Fifty-seven CHF patients were divided into three subgroupsaccording to the New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification system:CHF1group (NYHA class II,8cases), CHF2group (NYHA class III,29cases)and CHF3group (NYHA class IV,20cases), of which18patients werediagnosed as ischemic heart disease (group IHD),39were non-ischemic heartdisease(group NIHD).Thirty healthy individuals were enrolled as control group. The plasma IL-18,IL-18BPa,IL-37levels were measured byEnzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA).Results:(1)The plasma levels of IL-18,IL-18BPa,IL-37were significantlyhigher in CHF group compared with control subjects(260.65±112.48VS116.39±39.06pg/ml、557.10±169.18VS384.16±80.07pg/ml、0.118±0.104VS0.049±0.036ng/ml, respectively, P<0.05);(2)There were not significantdifferences of the plasma levels of IL-18, IL-18BPa,IL-37between IHDgroup and NIHD group (252.32±114.18VS264.50±112.97pg/ml、569.19±133.38VS551.52±184.72pg/ml、0.142±0.114VS0.108±0.099ng/ml,respectively,P>0.05);(3) A correlation analysis showed that the plasmalevels of IL-18, IL-18BPa, IL-37were positively correlated with eachother(r=0.714、0.572、0.455,respectively,P<0.01);(4) The plasma levels ofIL-18,IL-18BPa, and IL-37were strongly negatively correlated with LVEF inCHF patient(sr=-0.501、-0.367、-0.430,respectively, P<0.01),and was positivelycorrelated with NYHA classification of CHF patients (r=0.411、0.500、0.370,respectively, P<0.01).Conclusion: There are significant correlations between the plasma levelsof IL-18,IL-18BPa, and IL-37and the severity of CHF.However, there are nosignificant correlations between the plasma levels of IL-18,IL-18BPa, and IL-37and the basis of chronic heart failure causes.
