Objectives:To describe the status quo of medication adherence in elderly patients withhypertension as well as HQ in the communities of Changchun city, analyze theinfluential factors of the two,explore the relationship between the two,and put towardto opinions and suggestions of improving medication adherence of elderly patientswith hypertension.Methods:A cluster random sampling from400elderly patients with hypertension whoaccept treatment over three months in six community hospitals of Changchun City,using the questionnaire:general information,Morisky Medication Adherence Scale(MMAS),hypertension related Health Quotient questionnaire,390valid questionnairesreturned.A database was built by Epidata3.1and the datas were analyzed by SPSS17.0.Results:1.In390elderly patients with hypertension,medication adherence of20cases(5.1%) was good;137cases (35.1%) get3points for Morisky Medicaion AdherenceScale.In four reasons of no compliance231cases (59.2%) discontinued to takemedicine when symptom improved.Cultural degree,monthly income,duration ofdisease,complication had significant effects on the medication adherence of elderlypatients with hypertension.2.The score of life style was the highest (25.46±4.16),the score of healthknowledge was the lowest (23.87±4.20) in the four dimensions of HQ of the elderlypatients,nearly half patients was substandard in the three dimensions:self-care, health knowledge,mental status. Monthly income,family status,duration of disease,thecomplication,blood pressure control had significant effects on the two dimensions ofself-care and health knowledge.Family status,duration of disease, the complication,blood pressure control had significant effects on the two dimensions of life style andmental status.3.The four dimensions of HQ and medication adherence were provided withpositively correlation,and the dimension of self-care was closely relative withmedication adherence.Conclusion:1.The medication adherence of elderly population with hypertension incommunities of Changchun city is in a low level.To promote the elderly patients withhypertension the consciousness of medication adherence and develop goodmedication behavior,the education of medication adherence should be strengthenedfor the elderly patients with complication and whose education degree is belowundergraduate,monthly income is less than3500,duration of disease is less than10years.2.The level of HQ of elderly patients with hypertension in communities ofChangchun city should be improved,especially the score of health knowledge waseven below the threshold of HQ. The elderly patients with hypertension whose hadlower monthly income,longer duration of disease,complication,badly control bloodpressure and were in the empty nest family had lower scores of self-care and healthknowledge;the patients whose had longer duration of disease, complication,badlycontrol blood pressure and were in the empty nest family had lower scores of life styleand mental status,so improving the level of HQ should become the focus of healtheducation for the part of elderly patients in communities.3.The four dimensions of HQ and medication adherence were positivelycorrelation.Improving the level of HQ,in particular the consciousness and behavior ofself-care,was conducive to improve the medication adherence of elderly patients with hypertension.
