Development And Evaluation Of Family Management Style Scale For Asthmatic Children

[Objective]Base on the ecosystem theory and the basic frame of family management style of chronic children,the study is to develop a family management Style scale for asthmatic children and examine the reliability and validity of the scale, which can be applied as a measure instrument for the nursing crew to improve the ability of disease management of family with asthmatic children as well as to provide a basis for evaluation of health education effect of family management on children asthma.[Methods]Chronic child family management framework was used to develop scale framework. The scale contained8subscales:child identity, view of illness, management mindset, parental mutuality, parenting philosophy, management approach, conceptual component, future expectation. The literature retrieving, use for reference to other related scales and intensive interviews were used to work out an initial scale items. After two rounds of expert evaluation and preliminary experiment, we refined the original89items to82items scale. The reliability and validity were test among345caregivers of asthmatic children. All the data was put into the software Epidata3.1and use SPSS for statistical analysis.The methods of the scale item selection included item analysis and exploratory factor analysis. The validity of scale was examined by the structure validity and the content validity and the scale was evaluated by reliability analysis such as Cronbach’a, split reliability, test-retest reliability.(Results](1) Item analysis and selection:The final family management style scale for asthmatic children was developed which including8subscales and57items. There are25items of the scale were deleted by item analysis and exploratory factor analysis The subscale of child identity included6items, the subscale of view of illness included6items, the subscale of management mindset included4items, the subscale of parental mutuality included8items, the subscale of parenting philosophy included5items, the subscale of management approach included19items, the subscale of conceptual component included4items, the subscale of future expectation included5items. The scale was designed as a Liket5scale, with a point from1to5.The mean score of8subscale respectively were27.34±3.09,24.27±4.15, 11.05±4.36,32.94±5.49,22.67±2.52,84.75±17.54,13.76±1.62,22.39±3.02.The mean score of the scale was239.17±20.45.(2) Reliability analysis:The Cronbach’aof the scale was0.918. The Cronbach’aof the8subscales respectively wereO.803、0.810、0.837、0.883、0.759、0.880、0.803、0.860.The split reliability of the scale was0.802. The split reliability of the8subscales respectively were0.788.0.785、0.773、0.788、0.736、0.848、0.787、0.843.The test-retest reliability.of the scale was0.857. The test-retest reliability.of the8subscales respectively were0.876、0.906、0.827、0.948、0.770、0.906、0.849、0.729、0.957(p<0.01).(3)Validity analysis1) Content validity:The content validity of the scale were evaluated by Item Content Validity Index(I-CVI) and Scale Content Validity Index(S-CVI). I-CVI of the scale ranged form0.83to1.00. S-CVI of the scale was0.807.2) Structure validity:①Correlation analysis:The correlation coefficient between items of the subscale and the subscale ranged form0.513to0.865. The correlation coefficient among8subscales ranged form0.195to0.604.The correlation coefficient between8subscales and the scale ranged form0.408to0.876(p<0.01).︰se Divided into dimension individual factor analysis method to analyze8subscales,each dimension factor can respectively explained for51.586%,74.063%,67.852%,56.427%,52.249%,59.921%,61.624%,64.213%variances.(Conclusion]The specific family management Style scale for asthmatic children’s family was successfully developed with a good reliability and validity. It is a credible and effective measuring tool. It can be used as a tool for assessment to disease management level and health education effect of family management on children asthma.
