The Global Initiative for Asthma indicates that asthma can be controlled effectively by effective management although it cannot be cured. Because of the particularity of children, family management plays an important role in childhood asthma management. The family management mainly includes the control of the family environment, the monitoring of asthma symptoms, medication guidance, to avoid risk factors and the establishment of the compliance. Literature review found that abroad for studies of childhood asthma family management starts relatively early. In China, Gu Xiqian developed Family Management Style Scale for Asthmatic Children, the scale with a good validity and reliability. Objectives The purpose of this study is to verify the validity of the family management style scale for asthmatic children. On this basis, analyze the related factors influencing the family management of asthmatic children, for the effective management of children with asthma, to improve the prognosis of disease nursing intervention to provide basis of related research.Methods1. Totally 610 parents of asthma children in 3 cities were enrolled by convenience sampling and administered the family management style scale for asthmatic children. Data were analyzed using Amos 21.0. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to examine the construct validity of the sacle.2. After verifying the scale, other 285 parents of asthma children were investigated. Multiple regression analysis and variance analysis were adoptted to analyze the influencing factors of family management and explore the type of asthma children family management mode in our country.Results1. The family management style scale for asthmatic children is a valid instrument with good structure validity, consistent with the theory contains. Fit indexes of confirmatory model were:x2/df=1.804, GFI(goodness-of-fit index)=0.864, AGFI(adjusted goodness-of-fit index)=0.847, NFI(non-normed fit index)=0.871, IFI(incremental fit index)=0.938, CFI(comparative fit index)=0.938, RMSEA(root mean square error of approximation) =0.037,RMR(root mean-square residual)=0.049.The entire index was acceptable. Scale significant correlation among different dimensions, the correlation coefficient r between 0.088and 0.637.2. The scores on Family Management Style Scale for Asthmatic Children and 8 subscales indicated the model of family management style for asthmatic children is accommodating.3. The influential factors for childhood asthma family management mainly were primary caregiver, family-related factors, available medical resources and asthmatic children themselves. The primary caregiver factors included marital relationship of the parents, parents’marital status, parents’subjective feeling, mother’s cultural degree and father’s occupation. The family-related factors included family economic income, family history and families living place. The available medical resources included health education knowledge, treatment and follow-up plan. The factors from asthmatic children themselves were whether children with allergic rhinitis and child’s age.Conclusions1. The family management style scale for asthmatic children is a good instrument which can be used as a relevant measurement tools for clinical work and scientific research.2. The type of family management style for asthmatic children is accommodating. The later research can combine the qualitative data further explore the characteristics of each type of family management style for the implementation of intervention measures provides research foundation.3. The predictors for family management were from primary caregiver, family-related factors, available medical resources and asthmatic children themselves. In the future study can be health education in view of the above factors.
