Objective This experiment aims to observe the clinical efficacy of acupotomy for carpal tunnel syndrome through randomized controlled study, and provide the basis for clinical application. Methods Randomly divided the60patients (from September2011to December2013) who met the inclusion criteria, in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Chinese Medical University rehabilitation department, orthopedic department, and acupuncture department, into two groups:the treatment group and the control group. The treatment group received acupotomy therapy, and control group received partial closure treatment. Therapy treatment was for three weeks. After a course of treatment, compared the two groups before and after treatment and between groups by Levine carpal tunnel syndrome questionnaire score, distal motor latency(DML), sensory conduction velocity(SCV), sensory nerve action potential(SNAP) and Kelly efficacy evaluation. Finally, the data was statistically analyzed to conclude. Results The difference of Levine carpal tunnel syndrome questionnaire score, DML, SCV, SNAP within team before and after treatment were statistically significant (P<0.05); The difference of Levine carpal tunnel syndrome questionnaire score, DML, SCV between the two groups after treatment were statistically significant (P<0.05); the difference of SNAP between the two groups after the treatment was not statistically significant (P>0.05). According to Kelly efficacy evaluation after the treatment, the result of treatment group:10cases were excellent,16cases were good,3cases were fair,1case was poor; the result of control group:7cases were excellent,9cases were good,6cases were fair,7cases were poor. The difference between two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Acupotomy for carpal tunnel syndrome which has significant clinical improvement has superior clinical-efficacy than the treatment of partial closure.
