Pestilence is the infectious disease at epidemic proportions within a certain scope, which is hazardous to human life. Human history in a sense is the fighting history of human against disease. Ancient literature about pestilence is an important part of natural science. To strengthen the analysis and exploration of these precious documents is not only a retrospective study for prevalence and prevention of the infectious disease, but also an important supplement of studies on history of diseases, which has important scientific significance. This paper aims at filling in the blank of arrangement and research on the pestilence data of North Fujian in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and providing scientific data and historical reference for modern epidemic prevention and treatment work as well as for improvement of public health emergency system, the pestilence data of North Fujian in Ming and Qing Dynasties has been arranged and studied in this paper through historical textual research and modern statistics with the epidemiology as a guide and local literature as the basis.This article is divided into six parts:in the first chapter, the research background namely the pestilence status in Northern Fujian in Ming and Qing Dynasties is described. Northern Fujian has a long history and deep medical humanities accumulation. But it is also known as "the hometown of malaria", which is prone to pestilence; In the second chapter, epidemic data of the Northern Fujian in Ming and Qing Dynasties are compiled and counted according to three aspects including the dynasty and era name, administrative areas, and seasons; The third chapter will verify and analyze the causes and main types of the pestilence in Northern Fujian in Ming and Qing Dynasties; The fourth chapter analyze the effects of the pestilence on the society as well as the countermeasures; The fifth chapter analyze the contribution of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in Northern Fujian in Ming and Qing Dynasties from the level of clinical treatment and medication records; The last part sorts the pestilence data in Northern Fujian in Ming and Qing Dynasties and summarizes the researches about it.It can be known from analysis on the pestilence data in Northern Fujian in Ming and Qing Dynasties that:pestilence was serious in Ming Dynasty than Qing Dynasty, especially the disastrous epidemic disease in Yongle period; the prefecture of Shaowu used to be the hardest-hit area of pestilence, where Shaowu County and Guangze County were most serious; the disease often occurred in the autumn, and no obvious difference was between spring, summer and winter; The occurrence of pestilence had direct or indirect relationship with the climate conditions, natural disasters, turmoil of war, famine, bad customs and other factors; disease types included smallpox, measles, malaria, dysentery, leprosy and cholera; The outbreaks of pestilence led to population decline, which to a certain extent stimulated the medicine development, and had certain influence on the local folk beliefs; countermeasures were mainly manifested in the support of the government, people’s spontaneous righteousness and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in prevention and treatment of epidemic disease.
