Objectives: Our objectives were to determine the high prevalence of post strokedepression in stroke acute phase and to establish the best predictors. We expected toimprove the clinician’s attention and to provide clinical evidence for early diagnosis andtreatment for post stroke depression. Methods: Case-control study was used. The patients were from the NeurologyDepartment of wannan medical college first affiliated hospital and mananshan shiqiyehospital during January2011to December2011.Subjects included those who satisfiedthe WHO definition of stroke. The necessary conventional data was obtained from eachsubject: including socio-demographic, medical history, blood,Computed Tomography(CT) or Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) scan examination.Depressive symptomswere assessed in2weeks after the onset of stroke and a series of scales wereadministered.PSD was diagnosed as depression through the diagnostic criteria ofdepression in CCMD-3of Chinese and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and theothers were control group. The neurological deficit was estimated by National Institutesof Health Stroke Scale. The daily life skills were assessed by Activities of Daily LivingScales (ADL). The quantitative data was analyzed by two-sample test or Mann-WhitneyU rank sum test and the qualitative data was analyzed by chi-square test with SPSS17.0statistical software. The binary classification unconditional logistic regression analysiswas performed on the important related factors of PSD. Results:1. Total120patients were investigated.but in the end102patients fufiled allinvestigations. The frequency of any depressive disorder was45.1%(n=46).2. From thecharacteristics of stroke, we found that the incident of PSD were not related with thenature and location of stroke,But the left hemisphere、bilateralhemisphere、brainstemstroke for risk factor.3.We found no statistically significant difference in sex、average age、income、place of residence、cultural leve、diabetes、 hypertensionbetween the case group and the control group,But be related to marriage andcerebrovascular disease.4.The total score of NIHSS and ADL in the depression groupwas significantly related with depression group,Logistic regression analysis showedwere consistently associated with depression and the scores of ADL is protection factorsof PSD.Conclusions: Depression was found to be an important and common complicationamong stroke in our study. We found no statistically significant difference in sex、average age、income、place of residence、cultural levelbetween the case group and thecontrol group, but ADL、NIHSS showed were consistently associated with depression.PSD incidence may be related to marriage and cerebrovascular disease risk factors, butalso need large sample research.
