Objective:To explore the effect of acupuncture for pain relief in the dressing change of perianal abscess after operation.Methods:60perianal patients after operation who met the inclusion criteria were chosen from the anorectal department of Affiliated Hospital of chengdu University of traditional Chinese Medicine from March2011to December2012. They were randomly divided into blank group, treatment group and control group,20cases in each. The control group were applied with diclofenac sodium enteric-coated capsules (Daifen)75mg orally20minutes before dressing; the treatment group were acupuncturded on the corresponding acupoints with the needles retaining for20minntes before dressing; the blank group were treated without any pain-relief therapy. Assessment of pain with visual analogue score (VAS) was done in different periods of the study such as20minutes before dressing,20minutes after acupuncture,20minutes after having tablets, in the dressing and just after dressing. Meanwhile, the pain degrees of dressing and dressing-after were recorded. The recorded data was discussed then. Results:In the VAS evaluation system, compared with the blank group, the result for the two different periods(in the dressing and20minutes after dressing) of the treating group and control group were statistically significant(P<0.05). And about the pain degrees of dressing and dressing-after, treating group and control group compared with blank group also showed statistically significant (P<0.05)lighter. The result of treating group and control group showed no statistical significance (P>0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture could be an effective way for analgesic treatment of dressing change of post-operation perianal abscess which helps reducing the dose of analgesics, with advantages of non-toxic side effects. It is worthy of further research.
