Objective:Through studying the cause, compensation, problem solving approaching of medical disputes in333hospitals of Hunan Province from2008-2011, to better understanding the characteristics of medical disputes. For provide scientific support to improve the doctor-patient relationship, effectively prevent and resolve medical disputes.Method:Collected the medical disputes information of333hospitals in Hunan Province from2008-2011, to analyze the status and geographical distribution characteristics of medical disputes by using descriptive analysis.Results:There is in total of4457medical disputes in333hospitals of Hunan province then,13.38for every hospital. The average year rate of medical dispute is0.0906/thousand patients. Changsha City has the most medical disputes (784onwards) in all regions and Zhangjiajie City has the least (72.25onwards); Changde City has the highest annual rate of medical disputes (0.2115/thousand patients) and Yongzhou has the lowest (0.0240/thousand patients).Medical disputes (37.86) happened average per year in44secondary hospitals from2008-2011is higher than what in289tertiary hospitals (9.66).Compensation for the medical disputes increased first and then decreased, average year compensation cost is10.52thousand yuan, average compensation costs increased from22,672yuan to28,265yuan since2008to2011, Changsha is the highest while Zhangjiajie is the lowest in all regions.Aspect of doctor is the main cause to the medical disputes, other reasons in turn are aspect of patient, social, and policy. In aspect of doctor, communication is the first reason, and insufficiency of medicine knowledge is the main cause in aspect of patient. Consult is the first choice to solve medical disputes, other solution in turn is management of police, coordination of health administrative department.Conclusion:There is a decline trend in amount of medical disputes from2008to2011, however, Compensation for the medical disputes increased. The status of Medical disputes in hospital is more serious than status in second-tier hospital. There is a decline trend in rate of medical dispute from2008to2011. The aspect of doctor has a decline tread, the aspect of patient and policy are gradually increased.
