ObjectiveThe relationship between cytokine gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to Kawasaki diseases (KD) is still controversial, so the aim of the present study was to investigate the association of the polymorphisms of Interleukin-1β gene promoter locus-31T/C and exon5locus+3953C/T with the susceptibility of KD and the risk of KD with coronary artery lesion (CAL).MethodsTwo SNPs of IL-1β gene promoter locus-31T/C and exon5locus+3953C/T of63KD children and100healthy controls were recruited. All controls were frequency matched to KD patients on sex and ethnicity. PCR-RFLP technique was used for genotyping.Results(1) There were no significant differences between KD children and controls in the genotype of the polymorphism IL-1β gene promoter at locus-31T/C (χ2=5.294, p>0.05) or allelic type frequencies (χ2=1.332, p>0.05). And there were no significant differences between KD children and controls in the genotype of the polymorphism IL-1β gene at exon5locus+3953C/T (χ2=1.925, p>0.05) or allelic type frequencies (χ2=1.908, p>0.05).(2) There were no significant differences between KD patients with CAL and KD patients without CAL in either the genotype of the polymorphism IL-1β gene promoter at locus-31T/C (χ2=0.284, P>0.05) or allelic type frequencies (χ2=0.018,P>0.05). There were no significant differences between KD patients with CAL and KD patients without CAL in the genotype of the polymorphism IL-1β at exon5locus+3953C/T (χ2=0, P>0.05) and allelic type frequencies (χ2=0, P>0.05). ConclusionsNo associations between individual cytokine genetic polymorphisms of IL-1β gene promoter locus-31T/C and exon5locus3953C/T and susceptibility of KD were found in this research. There was no significant difference found for the susceptibility of developing CAL in KD patients with either IL-1β polymorphism at exon5locus+3953C/T or IL-1β polymorphism at locus-31T/C.
