Objective:This research is a comparative study of the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion and Chinese Medicine decoction in the treatment of Luteal Phase Deficiency (LPD) induced kidney, and stagnation of Qi in the liver (hereafter referred to as KL type LPD). The research focuses on the relief of symptoms, and improvement in Basal Body Temperature (BBT)、the production of sex hormones、the size (diameter) of the pre-ovulation dominant follicles-. endometrial thickness. The author hopes to contribute new perspectives and safe methods to the clinical treatment of LPD.Methods:This research selects70KL type LPD patients who came to Chengdu Chinese Medicine University Affiliated Hospital for treatment between May2011and December2012, and randomly divides them into the treatment group and the control group, each constitutes35cases. The treatment group receives acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, while the control group receives Chinese Medicine decoction treatment. The treatment lasts for three menstruation periods and a follow-up interview is conducted at the end of the first menstruation period after the treatment. And an curative effect and security assessment is conducted based on pre-treatment and post-treatment data of BBT type, BBT HPS, Mid-luteal phase serum progesterone values, the size (diameter) of the pre-ovulation dominant follicles, endometrial thickness, Chinese Medicine Symptom Score change and undesirable side-effects.Ruslts:(1) Pre-treatment comparability of the base-line profiles (age, duration, severity) of the two groups:p>0.05.(2) Difference in efficacy of treatments:87.88%for the treatment group and84.85%for the control group. The difference is not statistically significant (p>0.05), which indicates the treatment given to the treatment group is more effective than that given to the control group.(3) Leading post-treatment indices and Chinese Medicine Symptom Score:①Pre-treatment and post-treatment indices within each group: differences in BBT type, BBT HPS, Mid-luteal phase serum progesterone values, the size (diameter) of the pre-ovulation dominant follicles, endometrial thickness, Chinese Medicine Symptom Score change before and after treatment proves to be statistically significant (p<0.05), which indicates that both treatments are effective;②Post-treatment indices between groups: post-treatment differences in BBT type, BBT HPS, Chinese Medicine Symptom Score change between groups indicate that the result of treatment group is superior to the control group, and the difference is statistically significant (p<0.05).(4) Follow-up interview at the end of the first post-treatment menstruation period:0Pre-treatment and follow-up comparison within the groups:pre-treatment and follow-up differences in BBT, Mid-luteal phase serum progesterone values, the size (diameter) of the pre-ovulation dominant follicles, endometrial thickness, Chinese Medicine Symptom Score change prove to be statistically significant (p<0.05);②Pre-treatment and follow up comparison between groups:pre-treatment and follow-up differences between groups in BBT type, BBT HPS, Chinese Medicine Symptom Score prove to be statistically significant (p<0.05).(5) The treatment of acupuncture and moxibustion and Chinese Medicine decoction in the size (diameter) of the pre-ovulation dominant follicles, endometrial thickness, Mid-luteal phase serum progesterone values are effective。The efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion has certain adventage compared with Chinese Medicine, but difference is not statistically (p>0.05).Conclusion:The treatment of KL type LPD with acupuncture and moxibustion has significant results in improving BBT type, BBT HPS,, Mid-luteal phase serum progesterone values, the size (diameter) of the pre-ovulation dominant follicles, endometrial thickness, and Chinese Medicine Symptom Score. acupuncture and moxibustion treatment is superior to Chinese Medicine decoction treatment in its effectiveness, improving BBT, and Chinese Medicine Symptom Score. It is clinically safe and with low side-effects.
