Objective:Analyzing the occurrence, reasons and influencing factors of sharp injuries of sterile supply staff in hospitals with the centralized supply mode in Hunan Province, helps providing the basis for reducing the occupational risk of sharp injuries. Methods:Adopt questionnaire survey of342staff from30hospitals in Hunan Province, and use Excel2003and SPSS13.0statistical software for statistical analysis. Use the rate and composition ratio for statistical description of the count data, use the chi-square test and non-conditional logistic regression analysis to analyze influencing factors of needlestick injuries occurring in the past year by univariate and multivariate analysis. Results:since starting working, sharp injury occurred to84.2%(288/342) of the nurses and workers at least once, including contaminated sharp injuries by a patient’s blood or body fluids occurring to25.08%of nurses at least once. Sharp injury occurred to72.2%(247/342) of nurses at least once one year prior to the survey, including contaminated sharp injuries by a patient’s blood or body fluids occurring to27.2%of nurses,38.0%of the injured person can not determine whether the sharps have been used in patients or not. In the contaminated sharp injuries,83.2%can not determine whether the patients have blood-borne infectious diseases. The frequency of sharp injuries is highest at10:00am, followed by15:00pm. The vast majority of injuried positions concentrated on the hands, reaching up to97.8%, other parts(feet) only accounting2.2%. Major appliances leading to sharp injuries are sharp instruments, needle, stitch, disposable needles, razor blades. Working process of the supply center is classified into recovery, inventory, classification, cleaning, checking and packaging stage. The highest frequency occurred to the cleaning stage followed by the inventory stage. In the event of a sharp injury, only46.5%reported while more than half of them did not report, because39.09%think that report is a cumbersome procedure and24.55%believe it is useless because the hospital does not attach importance to report. 13.6%of the people did not wear gloves while being injuried, and only47.08%of the nurses have a better understanding of the dangers of sharp injuries,49.42%of the nurses only know little,3.51%of the nurses do not even know the danger of sharp injuries. The main way of knowledge sources is concentrated in lectures,59.65%of the nurses reflect the hospitals do not take measures to check and prevent sharp injury. In the event of a sharp injury,23.7%(71/299) of people think that it happened because the fingers are not flexible due to the cold weather. The factors such as different forms of employment, education, job title, whether nurses or workers, vaccination situation, whether registered nurses or not, influence the occurrence of sharp injuries of the past year, and the difference is statistically significant (P<0.05).Other factors such as extrovert personality, workers, unreasonable disposal of surgical items after being used by colleagues (surgeons or nurses),the crowded and noisy peripheral environment, undetailed operation process, lack of protection knowledge, scarce report in the event of sharp injury and the concept that sharp injuries can be avoided, are the risk factors of sharp injuries. Conclusions:The incidence of sharp injury of the central sterile supply staff is high and related knowledge training of sharp injuries is not adequate, and staff are little aware of prevention, which should attract the attention from relevant departments.
