Objective:To evaluate the therapeutic effect on pain, neck disability and life quality and propagability of guasha therapy in the treatment of cervical spondylosis, explore the nursing intervention for cervical spondylosis, explore and format the nursing technical specifications of guasha therapy in the treatment of cervical spondylosis. The study is a randomized controlled trial that consists of a treatment (guasha therapy) and control(massage)groups.Method:120newly diagnosed outpatients from Massage Department in Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese were sequentially numbered according to the order they came to hospital.120random numbers were generated by the random number table. Two groups of guasha group(observation group) and massage group(control group) were set by simple random, and each group had60cases. Acupoint selection principle of guasha group:Du meridian can adjust Qi of sysmetic Yang meridians, Foot-Shaoyang meridian mainly attend hypochondrium diseases, Hand-and Foot-Taiyang meridian mainly attend scapular and back diseases.Based on this, acupoints of guasha therapy were selected according to meridians. Acupoints:①Du meridian-Fengfu,Dazhui,Shenzhu;②Bladder Channel of Foot-Taiyang meridian-bilateral Tianzhu to Dazhu.④Gall Bladder Channel of Foot-Shaoyang meridian-bilateral Fengchi to Jianj in;④Small Intestine Channel of Hand-Shaoyang meridian-bilateral Tianzong.Spot pressed the acupoints when it was necessary. Each patient in guasha group was treated by guasha therapy once per week for a total of six times. Massage group:Standard of acupoint selection and operation of massage was set by referring to the book<Massage> which is the National TCM colleges and universities planning material. The massage treatment was operated by a doctor from Massage Department once per week for a total of six times on each patient in massage group. The effectiveness was assessed using McGill Pain Questionnaire(MPQ),The Neck Disability Index(NDI) and Short Form36-item Health Survey(SF-36).The observed data were collected, recorded and analyzed using the SPSS15.0software for Windows. Results:The score of MPQ,NDI and SF-36changed significantly after intervention in both observation group and control group(P=0.000<0.01).Comparison on the score of each dimension of MPQ and the total score between the observation group and control group after intervention showed that the difference were significant(P<0.01).The score of dimension of bodily pain(BP),mental health(MH) and mental component summary(MCS) in the SF-36questionnaire changed significantly(P<0.05).Conclusions:In the study,it was found that both guasha therapy and massage were effective in the treatment of cervical spondylosis. The score of MPQ and NDI were significantly decreased, and that of SF-36increased. Guasha therapy can better improve physical component summary and mental component summary in patients with cervical spondylosis.Guasha therapy’s effect on bodily pain, general health and vitality is more significant.Guasha therapy and massage are both effective methods in the treatment of cervical spondylosis.Guasha therapy was more effective to relieve pain, promote physical and mental health in patients.Plus,it is simple and operated by nurses, and it’s worth to be promoted as a nursing skill.
