ObjectiveTo learn about the knowledge, attitude, behavior of malaria among the residents aged15and above in border areas between China and Myanmar, and to analyze the factors, in order to provide reference for the effective health education, and ultimately to achieve the purpose of the prevention and control of malaria.MethodsIt was a cross-sectional study by cluster sampling. Conduct the household questionnaire survey to the residents aged15and above in Nabang town,Yingjiang county of Yunnan province and some villages of Laza city,Kachin state of Myanmar. The related knowledge, attitude and behavior about malaria of the residents were analyzed item by item. A comprehensive variable of knowledge, attitude, behavior related to malaria was produced with principal component analysis. Single factor analysis on the influencing factors by means of rank sum test and while the multifactor was analyzed by ordinal logistic regression.Results1. The investigation interviewed958people, in which452people come from China and506people come from Myanmar. Jingpo people accounted for25%of chinese, while93.3%of Myanmar. The residents’ age is dominated between18and59. More than75%residents are married. Occupations are mainly farmer and housewife. The residents with cultural degree of illiteracy or primary school is73.1%in Myanmar, higher than that of China (53.8%).The respondents of China suffered from malaria comes up to15.5%, while in Myanmar36.8%. Situation of social economy in China is much better than Myanmar.2. Comprehensive index by principal component analysis shows that the Chinese residents have a lower score in knowledge, prevention and control behavior about malaria, while have a higher score in attitude.3. The influencing factors of knowledge was nation, gender, age, nationality, occupation, educational level, marital status and whether suffered from malaria. The multivariate analysis by ordinal logistic regression shows the same results.4. The influencing factors analysis of attitude:the single factor analysis shows that nation, nationality, occupation and cultural degree are the factors affecting attitude related to malaria of the residents. The multivariate analysis also shows that knowledge, whether the community propagandized are the factors affecting attitude of the residents.5. The influencing factors analysis of behavior:the single factor analysis shows that nation, age, nationality, occupation, educational level, marital status and whether suffered from malaria are the factors affecting prevention behavior of the residents. Multivariate analysis showed that nation, nationality, occupation, education, knowledge, attitude and the distance with the health center are the factors affecting prevention behavior related to malaria of the residents.6. Linear correlation analysis of the knowledge-attitude-behavior demonstrates that it is a positive correlation relationship between the residents’knowledge and prevention and control behavior.Conclusions1. KAP levels of malaria are at a high level in China and Myanmar, but in some respects remains to be improved, such as attitude related to malaria of Myanmar residents needing to be improved while knowledge and behavior of Chinese residents needing to be improved.2. Different demographic characteristic have an impact on the knowledge, attitude and behavior related to malaria.3. Social economic status has no significant effect on the malaria knowledge, attitude and behavior.4. Public health service accessibility needs to be improved.
