Objective To evaluate the effect of total gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastrojejunostomy on the clinical outcome of patients with type2diabetes mellitus. Methods We performed retrospective analysis of25patients in our hospital with type2diabetes mellitus operated due to gastric cancer between May2005and May2012. Results The mean postoperative follow-up period was13.1months, the postoperative BMI, fasting glucose and postprandial blood glucose decreased significantly compared with the preoperative, in the25patients with diabetes mellitus,7patients achieved cure criteria,15patients showed good improvement, the total effectiveness rate was88%.Conclusion Total gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastrojejunostomy appear to effectively improve blood glucose level and clinical symptoms, it may be an effective treatment for diabetes mellitus.
