Objective: Observe the near-term clinical efficacy of Roux-en-Ygastric bypass operation on type2diabetes mellitus, and explore themechanism.Method: Retrospective analysis the clinical data of12patients withtype2diabetes mellitus underwent Roux-en-Y gastric bypass operation inour department from July2010to July2011, and observe the postoperativecomplications. The parameters such as body mass index(BMI), oral glucosetolerance test(OGTT), and glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) wereevaluated before and after surgery. Observe the outcomes of the12patientsafter6months of the surgery. Results: The parameters of OGTT and HbAlc were beginning todecrease. The decrease was becoming significant1month after surgery(p<0.05). But there was no significant difference in BMI (p>0.05).6months after surgery,10patients(83.3%) completely cured, and2patients(16.7%) reduced by at least50%of the amount of the hypoglycemic agents. Conclusion: The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass operation is effective andsafe on type2diabetes mellitus. The exclusion of proximal small intestine, reduction of GIP secretion, and increase of GLP-1secretion may be theimportant reasons for type2diabetes mellitus after Roux-en-Y gastricbypass operation.
