Objective:By analyzing the employment situation among national minority and Han nursing graduates, career intentions, psychology and the employers’demands and intentions on graduates, the study aims to find out the general characteristics and differences between national minority and Han graduates in choosing careers, futhermore, to investigate the influncing factors of choosing careers and employment, and to provide suggestions for teaching and guiding career-choosing in Secondary Health Care School. Methods:Minority and Han nursing professional graduates from2008,2009,2010and2011were invistaged by random cluster sampling. And the data were statistically analyzed by the Chi-Square Test and Logistic regression. Results:1) The category of employment unit between previous nursing graduates of national minority and Han is different (χ2=24.065, P<0.05). Most of the graduates’ current work units are the Prefecture level hospitals, county level hospitals and private hospitals. The standard of career-choosing between minority and Han graduates is different (χ2=18.244,P<0.05). Both of them choose their careers based on work stability and personal development, but Han graduates focus more on the whether the work matches their specialized field and minority graduates lay particular emphasis on the prospects of work units.2) There are differences in career expectation between minority and Han graduates (χ2=21.835, P<0.05). Han graduates expect to work in the Prefecture level hospitals, and minority graduates prefer to choose county hospitals. The related factors of employment mentality for minority and Han graduates include ethnic background, employment situation, expected salary, whether or not to choose grassroots employment, the employment confidence and employment psychological changes.3) The employers prefer to choose those who have got the nurse certificates or those minority graduates that are proficient in oral Chinese. The difference exsits in satisfaction of nursing graduates from different levels of employers (χ2=35.354, P<0.05). Conclusions:There existed certain differences in employment and career-choosing psychology between minority and Han nursing graduates in Yining Secondary Health Care School. The employment expectations in Han graduates are higher than national minority. The main influncing factors for the employment and career-choosing of are poor personal comprehensive quality, insufficient employment information, and without nurses certificate.
