In order to study the effect of colibacillosis on the biochemical and physiological indicesand the change of immune response of parenchymal organs in rabbits, and compare the effectof different treatment methods, healthy young rabbits were infected with E. coli. Forty healthyrabbits were randomly divided into four groups, the first was the control group (G1), injectedintraperitoneally2mL of sterile saline on the test day, the second was E. coli infections group(G2), the third was gentamicin treatment group (G3), the fourth was lactobacillus treatmentgroup (G4), these three groups were intraperitoneally injected2mL of E. coli on the test day.The rabbits of G3was daily injected of0.5mL gentamicin intramuscularly for4days after theonset of illness. The rabbits of G4was daily treated with a pill of Lactobacillus Tablets orallyfor4days. The blood samples and tissues of parenchymal organs were collected separately on1st,3rd and5th day after infection. The blood samples were used for the detection ofphysiological and biochemical indices. The tissues of parenchymal organs were fixed in4%paraformaldehyde for one week, and then paraffin-embedded, conventionally sectioned. Thehistopathological changes in tissues of parenchymal organs was observed with HE stainingmethod, the count of MCs in tissues of parenchymal organs was determined with improvedtoluidine blue staining, the amount of the expression of iNOS was determined withimmunohistochemical staining. The results showed that colibacillosis could damage parenchymal organs, such as heart, lung, liver, kidney and spleen. The rabbits of E. coli infections group had a serious congestionof the hearts, hemorrhage and a number of RBCs and inflammatory cells infiltration appearedbetween cardiac muscle fibers. In livers, phlebectasia and hyperemia were observed in centralveins of hepatic lobule, fibrous material increased between hepatic cells, hepatic cells atrophyand many RBCs infiltration. In lungs, bronchiolar mucosal fold protruded into the lumen, agreat quantity of inflammatory cells concentrated beside bronchioles, and alveolar septumwidened, and many RBCs infiltration. In kidneys, cortical area capillaries hyperemia andmany inflammatory cells infiltration were observed in cortical kidney glomerulus, and renaltubule edema insues in medullary area, dengeneration and necrosis of part renal tubularepithelial cells occurred. In spleens, degeneration and necrosis of lymphocytes occured in the center of acinus lienalis, and a number of RBCs and a little of lymphocytes were observed inred pulp. The results of blood physiological indices showed that the number of WBC and GRANRin G2was significantly higher than G1, the lymphocyte rate and intermediate cell rate wassignificantly lower than G1. The Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration andhemoglobin content in G2was significantly lower than G1. The results of blood biochemicalindices showed that in G2the concentrations of ALB and GLU were significantly reduced, the levels of Bun and TG were significantly increased, the levels of HDL-C were significantlyreduced. In G2the number of MC compared with G1were significantly increased in liver, spleen and kidney tissues. And there were not significantly changes in heart and lung tissues. The amount of the expression of iNOS in parenchymal organs, G2compared with G1weresignificantly increased. Gentamicin and lactobacillus both had a therapeutic effect on E. coliinfection in rabbits, both of them can mitigate the body damages on E. coli infection, but thetreatment effect of gentamicin was slightly better than lactobacillus. The results showed that rabbit colibacillosis was not only damaged the intestine, and alsocould cause the systemic pathological damage. Also show that MC and iNOS to some extentparticipate in the pathological damage process of E. coli to rabbits. Lactobacillus had atherapeutic effect on E. coli infection in rabbits, and it can be used as an Auxiliary medicationtreatment of rabbit colibacillosis.
