Hedge trimmer is one of the most widely used garden tools. Based on the garden workers’feedback, there is a certain room for improvement in the ergonomics design of the hedgetrimmer handle. Therefore how to improve the performance of hedge trimmer handle is avaluable problem study. In this paper, based on the design and usage of Hedge Trimmers Isummed a dozen of trim postures up in four most typical postures. I designed and made twoprototypes. Then I researched on the angle adjustment of hedge trimmer handle using theEMG detecting technology through experimental method. This provides a certain reference forquantization of ergonomics design of the hedge trimmer. The results show that: a) with the extension of time, the measured muscle is in a state offatigue gradually, the corresponding RMS value presents volatility rising trend. B) in theposture of the left hand holding the front handle, the gong radial muscle and wrist muscle havethe biggest application of force and the right side of the trapezius muscle and biceps have thesmallest application of force. C) The left and right sides of muscles are different in applicationof force. Changing hands can balance the fatigue, achieving the goal of lengthening workinghours. D) In the horizontal plane, with the increasing of trimming height the application offorce and fatigue are growing. Horizontal clip difficulty is higher than the vertical. E)Statistical analysis shows that the design of hedge trimmer handle can significantly affectergonomics performance. F) In the low height postures, the fatigue of prototype A and B are inthe same level. In the middle height postures, the fatigue of prototype A is5.47%lower than prototype B and has certain advantages in ergonomics performance. In the high altitudepostures, the fatigue of prototype A is26.22%lower than B and has obvious superiority inergonomics performance. In the vertical side postures, the fatigue of prototype A is38.21%lower than prototype B and has very obvious superiority in ergonomics performance. Finally, I look into the future of this kind of research method.
