Aiming to elaborate the role of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of four kinds of rare ornamental bamboo in caring health, experimental data were provided a reference for environmental benefits and health functions of ornamental bamboo.Combined with Thermal-desorption Cold Trap/Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry(TCT/GC/MS),we determined the composition, concentration, as well as variation of the VOCs released from four kinds of rare ornamental bamboo. Bashania fargesii (E.G.Camus) Keng f. et Yi, Chimonobambusa utilis (keng) keng f, Qiongzhuea tumidinoda Hsueh et Yi and Indocalamus emeiensis C. D. chu et C.S.Chao were analyzed.Studies showed that VOCs produced by Bashania fargesii (E.G.Camus) Keng f. et Yi, Chimonobambusa utilis (keng) keng f, Qiongzhuea tumidinoda Hsueh et Yi and Indocalamus emeiensis C. D. chu et C.S.Chao including esters, alcohols, acids, aldehydes, ketones, terpenes olefin and a small amount of phenols and other ingredients. The volatile organic compounds released by the four bamboo leaves contain a large number of the esters, which are extremely rich in species and content, reflected in the high content of9,12-Octadecenoic acid (z,z)-methyl ester,9-Octadecenoic acid(z)-methyl ester,Hexadecanoic acid ethyl ester and Octadecenoic acid methyl ester. The releasing process of the main esters appeared the similar variation:they Peaked in August. The alcohols in the volatile organic compounds which released by the four bamboo leaves were mostly aliphatic saturated and unsaturated alcohols, and small amounts of terpenols. The species and content of the alcohol compounds in the volatiles of four bamboo leaves were quite different and the the dynamic change was also different. Acids which contained the aliphatic and unsaturated acid accounts for a large proportion of volatiles which released by four bamboo leaves. And the highest content of the acid is palmitic acid. But in each bamboo’volatile the proportion of acids is different. The variation of the acids released from four kinds of rare ornamental bamboo was irregular in July and August. However, they Peaked in September. The aldehydes released from the four bamboo were mainly C8~C15saturated aldehydes and small amounts of unsaturated aliphatic aldehydes. And in each bamboo’volatile the proportion of aldehydes which appeared the similar variation of acids was differ ent.Ketones released from the four bamboo had less species and content, which were mainly six hydrogen pseudo ionone, and the variation of ketones were not obvious. The content of the terpenes, alkane and olefin is less than other compounds, and their variation were not obvious too.Studies showed that the VOCs released from four kinds of rare ornamental bamboo. Bashania fargesii (E.G.Camus) Keng f. et Yi, Chimonobambusa utilis (keng) keng f, Qiongzhuea tumidinoda Hsueh et Yi and Indocalamus emeiensis C. D. chu et C.S.Chao were good for human health. The VOCs These VOCs including esters, alcohols, acids, aldehyde, ketone and terpene olefin and a small amount of phenol, has an effect of antibacterial, bacteriostasis, expectorant, antitussive.and some of them can increase the determination of the freshness of the air.Meanwhile, they have a pleasant aroma which can relieve mental tension and fatigue. So that they can make people feel themselves in atural, relaxed, comfortable and pleasant.
