Irrigation district plays an irreplaceable role in ensuring agricultural irrigation andsupporting economic development. Irrigation district’s information monitoring has beenincreasingly important for improving the level of modern management in irrigation districts.However, it is difficult to monitor and maintain infrastructures in irrigation districts thatobtaining information by traditional ways. In this paper, image acquisition technology andGPRS wireless transmission technology were used to monitor irrigation district and an imageacquisition and wireless transmission terminal based on the STM32was developed forirrigation district. Specific contents are as follows:(1) On the basis of analyzing the characteristics of the irrigation district’s informationmonitoring, according to the function characteristics and performance requirements of thedevices which used in the irrigation district, then built the overall framework of the system. Itconsists of the image acquisition module, processor module, image storage module andwireless transmission module.(2) According to the application requirements and the actual conditions, analyzed andcompared the related technologies, and the STM32F103RBT6microprocessor, OV7670CMOS camera, SD card and GPRS wireless transmission module were chose to determine thehardware of the system.(3) The modular design concept was adopted in the hardware design of entire system,including microprocessor core circuit design, image acquisition module circuit design, imagestorage module circuit design and wireless transmission module circuit design. Thecharacteristics in size, cost, power and reliability of various components were considered inthe hardware design.(4) According to the functional requirements, then goes for the design of software on thebasis of hardware of the monitoring terminal, including OV7670camera gathering image, SDcard saving image and GPRS wireless transmission module M20sending MMS. The modulardesign and subroutine call methods were adopted in the software programming. Imageacquisition software modules used interrupt control way in the interrupt service function,image saving and sending used a loop way in the main program. In order to creating acommon file system between PC and SD card, FATFS file system was transplanted. (5) A functional testing about the various functional modules and entire system wasdone after the completion design of the hardware and software.The testing results showed that the terminal was stable with low power consumption,which was reliable in collecting and sending image. Further, the problems of containing lessinformation, with high cost and poor reliability that exist in traditional irrigation areamonitoring were solved successfully. Generally, it had high value in the irrigation areamonitoring.
