Study On The Mountainous Vernacular Settlement Landscape In The Northwest Of Hubei Province

Traditional village is a kind of cultural landscape formed from the historical construction in a certain region. In the context of cultural convergence today, China is facing a rapid process of urbanization. Issues about how new country planning continues tradition and history and meets local people’s needs put forward new requirements among landscape architects. Essay focuses on:(1)Based on an investigation on traditional villages in the northwest of Hubei Province,attempts to explore the how the location of villages, farms, and folk houses interact each other,(2) Seeks to find the common features of inner and outer environment of villages, landscape patterns, and spatial forms. Analysis on the objective natural conditions "mountain-farmland-houses and facilities" as the main clue。Summarized the characteristic of landscape pattern of regional traditional villages as "Free layout, The farmland As the center, Architecture Backed by the mountain for farmland."(3) The construction of new villages based on the status quo in northwest of Hubei, points out several problems of today’s new country construction, proposes initial ideas about building new villages via the analysis of traditional villages and study on various hypothetical projects, and underlines the meaning of traditional villages in nowadays construction of living environment.
