Research On Open Design Of Servant Space Of Expo Buildings

The starting point of this paper is my thinking of Louis Kahn’s theory about "servant space and served space". Is the relation between "servant space" and "served space" irreconcilable? Do the two have the possibility of integration? How can "servant space" turn from "closed" to "open"? Deep thinking on these issues forms the basic concepts and structure of this paper.For the need of writing, it extracts expo building’s "equipment lines" which is related with technological and mechanical factors as the subject of this paper. It is aimed at discussing the necessity and feasibility of open design of sevant space. The purpose of this paper is to investigate and demonstrate a feasible design method and to rich architectural design language.Chapter1, introduction. It introduces the research background and motivation. It determines the research object. Based on the analysis of relevant research results both home and abroad. It puts forward the innovation, as well as the significances and methods of this study.Chapter2, theory research. It parses the inner link between expo building and servant space’s open design. It explains the association between expo building and servant space’s open design. It analysises the dynamic factors with the expo building, the user and architects, as well as the significance of open design.Chapter3, case study. It respectively analyses the servant space’s closed design strategy in Louis I Kahn’s works, as well as the strategy of open design of new expo building’s servant space. It analyzes the design ideas and methods of open design.Chapter4, design methods. It summarizes the open design strategy of expo building’s servant space in this three aspects:space layout, space form, as well as the interface between servant space and served space.
