| High-rise building emerges with the rapid growth of the urban economics, while its huge volume leads to various problems in the urban environments and the people's mentality. But, with the open space at the bottom of high-rise building having a special sense of openness, it will be of great importance in improving the urban transportation conditions, creating pleasant outdoor environments and achieving the harmonious between human and nature. However, the relevant research and practice of this kind of space are still premature. This thesis therefore takes it as the research object. Based on the theories of urban design and aesthetic theories, this research in a comprehensive way explores its historical evolvement, developing concepts, design techniques and its relationship with the urban design, and put forward some suggestions on its exploitation with the expectation for benefiting corresponding design and constructions. The first chapter of the thesis expounds the concept of the open space at the bottom of high-rise building, relative theoretical background, current situation and the necessity of this research. The second chapter makes a comprehensive review of the historical evolvement and the changing design ideas of the space. The third chapter, in the perspective of specific design techniques, introduces the common styles of the space and explores its spatial layout, dynamic organization, various scales, the interface design, the environmental facilities and some environmental issues through the analysis of plenty of design projects. The fourth chapter, considering the relationship between the space and the urban design, investigates its relationship with urban spaces, urban transportation and the townscape aesthetics. The fifth chapter, based on the above research, has a critical thinking on the current situations of this kind of space in China. By comparing such issues as manage mechanism, maintenance mechanism and encouraging policy between those of China and outside, this thesis advocates that the design of the space must integrate such aspects as exploitation, design, management, maintenance and use. It further attempts to explore the substantial approaches for achieving this integration. |
