With the rapid development of economic globalization, international trade is expanding fast; marine transport industry has been developing rapidly. In order to improve transport efficiency, the number of vessels is increasing; vessels are becoming the large-scale and specialization, so the maritime traffic density is becoming large in the port and the main channel, and navigational environment continues to deteriorate.Ships sailing risk is an important aspect of maritime traffic studies, traditional methods of data collection cost huge. However data collection of AIS is available, and it records the vessel information with real time. Through the analysis of the trajectory of the ships, the ship near collision of spatial and temporal distribution can be obtained, so it can find the waters of the danger zone. Then it can strengthen the monitoring of dangerous waters to avoid the dangerous waters, to improve the navigation environment. It ensures that the ship’s safe navigation is important. To determine the dangerous waters of Qiongzhou Strait, the main work of this paper is as follows:(1) To obtaining vessel information by analyzing AIS data and store information in the database. To obtain missing data, it can process ship track data with linear interpolation; in order to improve efficiency, according to a time of one minute to extract the frequency of sampling the ship track information and process it.(2) This paper put forward the concept of the ship near collision, and use ship domain to explain the concept of the near collision detailed. And ship domain model of ship near collision is proposed according to the characteristics of the waters and the decision rules and detection algorithms.(3) Taking an example for Qiongzhou Strait, this paper could detect vessel near collision based on AIS data information received, it obtained ship information with ship near collision and analyzed the situation of vessel near collision of the Qiongzhou Strait with the time, spatial distribution, scale and type of ship in many angles Meanwhile, This paper put hot analysis on different ship encounter situation of close collision ship according to ArcGIS; it can obtain ship close collision heat map of the Qiongzhou Strait. This can assess navigational risk of Qiongzhou Strait, ascertain dangerous waters, and ensure the safe navigation of the ship.
