Less-city has always been unique in the developing history of Chinese cities, but it is also exist with Chengdu which has never had transformed city sites, and has never changed the name for two thousand years since the city had been built, the Less-city is gradually from view, the process of modernization from the city disappeared, faded. Reconstruction and development of the narrow alley historic preservation district is a Less-city into the spotlight once again been widespread concern.In this thesis, the Less-city in the form of urban space and its evolution from its birth, development and updating of the whole process starting from the city cognitive perspective to the process of change and as a starting point. The Less-city on the road with neighborhood urban interface, open space and place, nodes, markers, and other elements of a comprehensive status of space research, historical research and process analysis. Summarizes the changes in its properties and characteristics of urban space, and less impact on the surrounding area of the city were analyzed.Finally, on the basis of a comprehensive analysis and overall research of the Less-city, thinking and summarize. Find out problems that exist in the update process changes or success or failure of Less-city. The Less-city’s newer methods and models, and its reflections in the protection and development update. Thinking and comparative analysis of urban space and building height control, etc. And the Less-city’s future development were discussed. Summarize Less-city’s changes to provide a reference for the transformation of the city and benefit advice or suggestions, updates, and future development.
