Video surveillance system on the unmanned aerial vehicle is more important than on the ordinary plane. And considering the restriction on volume, weight and transmission of unmanned aerial vehicle, there are new demands for video surveillance system on the unmanned aerial vehicle. We need to reduce the hardware complexity of the video surveillance system, which requires stronger function and conciser peripheral and smaller volume. The Davinci serials are characterized by the structure of multi-core SOC, with high performance core processing system and various peripheral, which contributes to the reduction of integrity, as well as weight, volume and power dissipation of the system. Above all, the Davinci serials chip is one of the best choices of video surveillance system on the unmanned aerial vehicle. Video storage is another point of the system, especially on the unmanned aerial vehicle. And big capacity video storage inescapably brings about the problems of volume and weight. What’s more, the information transmission of video surveillance system on the unmanned aerial vehicle is also a technical bottleneck. Above all, video encoding is both very important for storage and transmission. The software structure on the Davinci platform has already integrated various compression algorithm for users, which helps to reduce the developmental complexity.This paper aims at the video surveillance system on the unmanned aerial vehicle, launches a serials of study. Firstly, on the premise of fully research on the Davinci technology, we choose TMS320DM6467T as the main chip, which is designed for the application of multi-channel high definition video encoding, and chooses SEED-DVS6467T as the hardware platform. Secondly, after deep research and compare of various compression algorithm, we finally chooses H.264as the compression algorithm, which has maturely developed and has wide application.After choosing hardware platform, we finishes the building of Davinci development environment. The multi-core structure decides the specificity of the development environment, the ARM core is mainly responsible for the control of peripherals, and the DSP core is mainly in charge of the running of complex algorithm. The H.264compression algorithm, which we will use later has been integrated in the software structure, we only need to known how to call it. So the key point of the system development is the GPP application programme development in the ARM core.For the application programme development on the Linux platform, this paper firstly finishes the multi-threads development of application programme of real-time capture and display of eight-channel video. The format of the video is PAL720×576, we realizes both normal definition display and high definition display. The experiment result indicate that the real-time property of video display is very good, and the definition and of the image is also fine.Finally, we finishes the design of multi-threads application programme of one channel video capture, display, compression, storage and network transmission. And the results indicate that the property of the stored video and transmitted video is both very good and the compression ratio of the video is more than100, which will meet the needs of video surveillance system on the unmanned aerial vehicle.
