Study On The Interface Of The Traditional Streets In Fenghuang Ancient City

Traditional streets are vitally important to the culture of ancient city, the interface of which is the embodiment of its culture. In order to understand the special space peculiarity and culture meaning of these streets and offer now thoughts and references to the protection and renewal of these streets, we take one of the most famous and historic city named Fenghuang as our study object and study the concrete interface of its physical space and virtual interface containing culture.In this study, the definition of virtual interface and concrete interface is discussed at the beginning. We briefly introduce the Natural geographical environment and social environment of Fenghuang ancient city and the essence, function, meaning, basic elements and fundamental types of streets’ interface. Then we classify the streets into two types as mentioned above and discuss the basic elements, types, function and value. Based on the knowledge of the street system of Fenghuang ancient city, we study the relationship between two types and analysis its value, pointing out the defections existing in this system and the internal factors that produce these problems.Our research shows the following four conclusions. First, the streets of Fenghuang ancient city is closely related. The concrete interfaces is the physical embodiment of the virtual interfaces and the virtual interfaces guide the formation and development of concrete interfaces in turn. Second, continuity, divergence, intermediation, direction, diversity and permeability are reflected in the streets with varying degrees. Third, the street witnesses the development of Fenghuang ancient city as a marker, which improve the living environment of the local residents and the city’s value to be a tourism spot by increasing the culture deposits and attraction. And the diversity living styles of local people facilitate the continuity and fusion of the regional landscape. Finally, the ancient city faces with series of problems, the crowd space, the deficiency of interface excluding building elevation, direct blocking and destruction to the interface, causing by population explosion, excessive tourism development, the change of life styles and culture concept, and the lack of effective construction management.
