Recent years, the swift development of electronic technology brings a higher improvement in informationization and integration in control unit of automobiles, especially after the widely use of QNX operating system in automobile industry, which brings tremendous development of intelligence and reliability in electronic automobile industry. The Instrument Panel on Vehicle, an important platform for information exchanges between driver and vehicle, is used to manifest the real time information of the vehicle, which can impose direct influence on the safe driving. Most of the panels on current vehicles are semimechanized pattern, featured in a single form of information and function and can not be added with more function. can not meet the demand of the current vehicles in information display. In order to overcome the shortcomings of the traditional instrument panels, virtual LCD instrument panel is adopted and put into application. In the near future, virtual LCD instrument panel will gradually substitute the traditional semimechanized pattern and become the mainstay technology of instrument panel on vehicles, which also enjoys a wide market perspective.Accordingly, this project aims to design the virtual LCD instrument panel based on HTML5which allows the driver to directly acquire the real time information of the vehicle when driving. This article has focused on researching and designing the software sector on the virtual LCD instrument panel, which includes selecting the operating system, equipping the software with functions like receiving data, interaction, graphical displaying and so on. Above all, graphical display of the statistics is the key content of the virtual instrument panel, this project adopted the powerful and expansible HTML5to develop the graphic interface, which provides the instrument panel with fine human-computer interaction and expansible features, which also brings the possibility of interconnection among vehicles in the future.This article provides penetrating research and analysis about the key technology of realizing the virtual instrument panel. After comparing QNX micro kernel structure with other QNX systems, QNX real time system is adopted as the operating system in virtual instrument panel, HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3are used as the development tools of the panel. There is also penetrating description about HTML5technique and its relative features. In addition, the hardware environment which is needed by the virtual LCD instrument panel is also established to support the software on the panel, there is also some brief description about the hardware device. Driven by the requirements of the display system, the software on the panel are subdivided into three modules, statistics collection module, data interaction module and graphical display module. The statistics receiving function is accomplished through serial port, the interaction among local devices and HTML5applications is accomplished by PPS service and JavaScript plugins, which effectively promote the portability and extendibility of the system. The virtual instrument panel can analyze the information of vehicles and provide specific resolution. The testing environment is created to test the function of the system, and the result of the test indicates that this project is effective and correct.
