With the rapidly development of the automobile industry, people’s trip becomefaster and more convenient, At the same time, automobile industry plays a drivin grole in the development of society. However, with the production and owning amountof automobile increasing dramatically, the automobile industry has consumed toomuch of the natural resources, and caused serious pollution. Therefore,-savingresources and reducing environmental pollution has become an urgent issue in thecontext of global energy source problem. For the automotive industry, it is alsoimportant to focus on sustainable development, the development of new energyvehicles being an effective solution..As early as1873, Robert Davidson produced thefirst available electric car. Compared to fuel cars, electric cars owns lots ofadvantages such as clean, environmentally friendly, no noise, low operatingcosts..With the trend of environmentally friendly lifestyle and people’s pursuit oflow-carbon life, electric vehicles will become an important alternative fortransportation and an significant trend of future automotive industry.Automobile design is one of the key aspect of automotive R&D., belonging to"high-tech, high emotion" products. Automobile is not only a carrier of advancedtechnology, but also the production of multi-discipline and multi-objective. As newenergy vehicles, electric vehicles are characterized as simple, fashion, variety andhigh-tech.With the living standards improving and people’s aesthetic standardsimproving, people have higher expectation of automotive styling, line style, colorperception and other visual effects,which calls for more efforts of the wholeautomobile design industry.Based on the actual project, this paper aims to study how to better understand theParty A ’s design requirements and meet the emotional needs of the users and achievethe industrial design concept. Firstly, this paper analyze and study the Party A’srequirements. Secondly, work plans are discussed and drawn up on the basis of theresearch of the development of electric vehicles design at home and abroad, Thirdly,this paper analyze the volume, treatment, graphics and other features of the typicalsample to grasp the electric car styling and development characteristics and rules; Atlast, the general theory is applied in design. The design process is as followed: At first,brainstorming is used to produced large numbers of design proposals, after evaluating these proposals, some were selected to the next term. After iterative design process,the final proposal was chosen. This design covers the phases of design sketching,renderings, CAS, scale clay model, and finnaly the prototyping.This papersystematically summarized and refined the design process, design methods and designconcepts of the new electric vehicles, which is very important in promoting electricvehicle design.
