Research And Application Of Frond-end Task In Construction Machinery Form Design

As the equipment support for basic construction, construction machinery isplaying an important role in the regional economic development and the process ofsocial development. In recent years, China has become the important manufacturerand consumer market within the field of construction machinery industry as a result ofchange in the pattern of international construction machinery industry. On one hand,the industry’s leading enterprises are busy to go abroad, expand market, merge othercompanies and strengthen the company’s brand. On the other hand, SMEs in theindustry is thriving quickly under the support of national policy and good industrialenvironment. With this industry background, companies concern more and more theexterior design of the construction machinery products.From the perspective of design service and aiming at design process, this paperstudied the preparatory activities in the early stage of construction machinery formdesign outsourcing projects by using the theories of design management, cognitivepsychology, and design arts. This paper has summed up the main components andcharacteristics of the process of construction machinery design front-end activities byanalysising three construction machinery form design project cases and the modes ofcooperation. This paper has summed up the main problems and dilemmas faced bydesigners in the project design process by the questionnaire survey. Further, based onthe characteristics of construction machinery form design front-end process and thedifficulties faced by the designers in the project design process, this paper hasdescribed the design front-end process in construction machinery form design projectsfrom the basic process, the basic characteristics and main tasks. And then, ContrastingGrounded Theory and Stage-gate system, this paper has constructed the designfront-end task model from the design strategy, design goal and design knowledge asthree levels and stages, and discussed the main goals and activities characteristics ineach stage of the design front-end task. At the end of this paper, the design front-endtask model has been used to manage the preparatory activities in the early stage ofSANY heavy forklift form design project. It has been cleared the modes of projectcooperation, built the project’s design strategy, defined the project’s design goals andprepared the project’s design knowlege by accomplishing the each stage task. Finally,a program of innovative design has been complet based on the design front-end knowledge.Theory and application experience both proved that the management of thepreparatory activities in the early stage of the construction machinery form designoutsourcing projects based on the design front-end tasks can improve theeffectiveness of the project and ensure the project to be carried out smoothly.
